There have been lots of wet basements after the heavy rains this week.
Here’s why gutters are so important!
1. If your gutters do not extend at least 6 feet from your house- as seen in the top 2 photos, the water can drain right back to your foundation and into your basement. Also make sure those extensions are on securely so they don’t blow off in the middle of a storm.
2. If your gutters are clogged with leaves and debris the water has nowhere to go! In a heavy rain it will pour over the edge directly into you foundation walls. Clean your gutters regularly and install leaf guards if you have trees that drop a lot of debris.
Also be sure to cover those window wells! This can help prevent water from getting in.
